The Low Vision Conference will be accompanied by a specialised industrial exhibition. All interested companies are invited to request information on the exhibition modalities from Conventus Congressmanagement & Marketing GmbH.

Dear industrial partners,

Vision loss after damage to the retina, optic nerve or brain are considered irreversible.  The best one could hope for is preventing decline through eye drops or surgery.  But recent progress in science and technology gives rise to new options of prevention and even reversal of low vision. These advances impact different diseases of the visual system including “eye diseases” such as glaucoma, optic neuropathy, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa and amblyopia. But low vision is also found in neurological diseases of the brain´s visual system including stroke and trauma, normal aging, dementia, Huntington and Parkinson´s diseases.

“4r-vision” is an international and multidisciplinary conference that will highlight diagnostic and treatment approaches that aim at modulating nervous system structure and function though rescue, regeneration, restoration and rehabilitation.  Besides the retina – with its 1 gram of tissue weight - the brain´s visual system (>100 gr) is also a target to offer new options for patient care. 4r-vison will showcase the recent paradigm shift in basic and clinical science, clinical care, and industry innovations. Topics to be covered include drugs and devices that can reduce cell death, stem cells and regeneration, behavioural training and electrical stimulation devices that restore vision and/or strengthen residual visual capacities through brain plasticity. And it will cover coping with low vision through substitution or compensation.

4r-vision is unique as it addressed the problem of low vision in an interdisciplinary manner from the perspectives of ophthalmology, neurology, molecular biology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation psychology, engineering, and technology. There is more “wiggle room” to prevent and improve vision loss by rescuing, replacing or activating neurons and their networks in low vision.  This will help finding new light at the end of the tunnel to overcome vision loss and properly adjust to it is a way which goes beyond eye drops and surgery. This is both a scientific and societal responsibility, and 4r-vision is a source of  scientific advancement, innovation and commercialization.
